Mandate and Key Functions
The Office of the Ombudsman has several key mandates aimed at promoting good governance and ethical behavior within Liberia’s public sector
1. Enforcement of Adherence to the Code of Conduct
The Office ensures that public officials comply with ethical standards outlined in the Code of Conduct. This includes taking disciplinary action against violators.


2. Investigation of Complaints
The Office investigates allegations of misconduct or unethical behaviour by public officials. This includes conducting fact-finding missions and gathering evidence related to breaches of the Code.

3. Monitoring Compliance
The Office continuously monitors government institutions and individuals to ensure ongoing adherence to ethical standards. This proactive approach helps prevent violations before they occur.

4. Oversight Role
The Office provides oversight on how government bodies implement ethical guidelines. It works closely with other agencies such as the Liberia Anti-Corruption Commission (LACC) to ensure systemic compliance with governance reforms.

5. Evaluation of Adherence
The Office evaluates how well public officials are complying with the Code over time. This allows for continuous improvement in governance practices by identifying areas where reforms or additional training may be needed.
